Keep your site up to date.
After your site is created and online, you will want to update your
content regularly. This encourages repeat visits and keeps your
site higher in the search engine ratings. (Search engines detect "stale"
site content, and downgrade the site accordingly in their rankings.)
There are three options for site maintenance:
- You can maintain site content yourself. If you choose to do this,
we recommend you budget some time and money for training. There
are techniques you will need to know to maintain content without
compromising the stability and usability of your site.
- We can maintain the content for you. This is done at an hourly
rate, with a minimum cost of one hour. Time is charged at
increments of 15 minutes after the first hour.
- You can use a combination of the two approaches. After your site
is complete we can advise you how to maintain your content cost-effectively.
If you wish to maintain your web site yourself, we recommend you advise
us of this at the initial consultation. In many cases we are able to design
a site where you maintain content using a spreadsheet program (such as
Microsoft Excel) and then upload it to a database on your web site server.
This approach allows you to edit content in an easy-to-use spreadsheet program,
and avoid the disks of damaging your web site's HTML code. Here are two pages
we have designed which are maintained in this way.
